Civil Air Support is an entirely voluntary organisation comprising pilots, observers and supporters. Pilots provide their aircraft free of charge. Civil Air Support is not an emergency service and does not normally maintain a standby footing. Air assistance can be requested when alternative air assets may not be available either due to serviceability, re-deployment or cost. Civil Air Support assets are therefore available to everyone including government agencies, private organisations, other charities and even individuals. Roles other than search include aerial photography, aerial survey, observation and reporting, safety cover for large events, communications relay and transport applications (personnel, equipment or supplies).
